Challenge 72 – Sea Dragon
SV Sea Dragon is a 72ft (22m), 90,000lb steel-hulled sailing vessel, originally built in the UK in 2000 for the Global Challenge Race - a demanding 32,000km west-about circumnavigation. Designed to endure the world’s harshest sailing conditions, she is rated Category 0 All Oceans by the British Maritime and Coastal Agency and optimised for both safety and performance, even with volunteer crews.
Now repurposed for remote sailing expeditions, Sea Dragon offers rugged capability with a low environmental footprint. She accommodates up to 11 guest crew in sea berths, with two heads, showers, and a spacious salon. A full equipped and stocked galley allows fresh food to be provided for the duration of a voyage. The vessel is equipped with twin iridium satellite phones, HF radio, and all the modern navigation equipment to keep you safe and connected despite being well offshore. With extensive sails, water-making, large fuel reserves, wind/solar power, and two inflatables with outboards, she is fully equipped for extended voyages and coastal exploration. Comprehensive medical provisions and offshore support ensure safety throughout every journey, making her a true ocean explorer.
